v1.0.13
A plan for the tabletop ecosystem we're building — open-source games, modular engines, and a marketplace for the modders who'll fill it.
Every rulebook is forkable. Every component is replaceable. Every variant is a pull request waiting to happen. Modders aren't a side channel — they're how the catalogue grows.
Not a publisher. Not a platform. A toolkit — modular game engines, a print-on-demand pipeline, and a marketplace — that turns the boards on your shelf into the boards you wanted them to be.
Territory. Attrition. Nuclear brinkmanship.
A hex-tile board game where every token is a unit, a hostage, and a countdown timer — all at once. Plays on a board you already own.
Catan's hex tiles are a Nukes board out of the box. 45 million homes are already set up.
Six neighbours instead of four. No diagonal exceptions. No edge-case rules. The math of strategy gets cleaner the moment the grid does.
Why now: we're building our own online engine for hosting hex-based games, so any tabletop designer can ship a hex variant without rolling their own infrastructure.
Nukes is live online. Create private sessions, hand off between phone, tablet and laptop. Pause a session in May, finish it in October. The board waits.
Every game played online — human-vs-human or human-vs-bot — improves the next bot you'll face. The engine is a teaching engine first, an opponent second.
Each tier annotates its moves — learn by watching the AI think.
Anonymised game logs, opt-out by default for private sessions.
No live-server requirement. Notify on opponent's move.
All three share the same modular hex board and the same online engine — every shipped game makes the next one cheaper.
Wartime token strategy on a modular hex board. Chess × Checkers × Go on Catan hexes you already own.
Global conquest in the Flash Gordon universe — Risk × Catan in a public-domain setting we don't have to license.
Worker-placement exploration, trading and combat — based on the popular open-source video game of the same name.
A place where physical and online play converge under community ownership — and an online engine and marketplace where anyone can monetise their creations.
Every one of them a hex board for Nukes — no new components required.
500M people have played. Econopoly ships a fairer rulebook.
Public-domain. Never been more popular. No moddable compendium yet.
The oldest installed base on the planet. Still played daily worldwide.

Two tracks, run in parallel. One bootstraps slowly with revenue. The other unlocks with funding — and shortens the timeline.
Revenue funds the next print run. No outside cheque required.
Outside capital builds the engine, the marketplace, and the team.
A three-layer license that invites community creation while protecting what makes us defensible.
No one can take community creations private. Every mod flows back to our ecosystem.
Rules are open but hosting, bots, multiplayer, and the marketplace cannot be forked.
No non-commercial restriction. Creators monetise on our marketplace — or anywhere else.
Both engines ship as MCP servers — any AI agent can analyse positions, generate maps, and build on our infrastructure with a single command.
No other tabletop platform offers AI-callable game engines. Ours are live, documented, and connecting to the fastest-growing developer ecosystem in history.
Chess analysis, hex generation, pathfinding, puzzle creation — all callable by any MCP-compatible agent.
MCP protocol, REST API, OpenAPI spec, llms.txt. Every integration pattern covered from day one.
Native ESM. Import our engines in browser, Node.js, or Cloudflare Workers — no bundler, no transpiler, no config.
Dungeon Chess, tools.moddable.games, and the SDK demo — each proving a different integration pattern.
Every AI agent that integrates our tools creates switching costs. Network effects compound with each new consumer.
No competing board game engine has MCP integration. We own this category before it has a name.
API usage becomes a revenue line as third-party agents build on our engines at scale.
Seven mods published, three featured here — each targeting a game with a built-in audience and a known itch the original rules don't scratch.
Monopoly with a working economy. Anti-monopoly rules, dynamic property pricing, and a tax band that actually does something.
61 hex tiles replace the fixed board — five rings, 14 terrain types, a new map dealt every session. All original cards and characters unchanged.
Twilight Imperium in 4–6 hours (vs 8+). Streamlined economy, simultaneous turns and a sharper political phase.
The most modded game in history — finally with a home.
Hundreds of variations exist. Most are buried in forum threads and PDFs. Our consumer SDK and public guides let anyone build and publish a variant in minutes — 70 playable today, growing without us.
First consumer game · Built entirely on Moddable Chess
Four factions, terrain hazards, custom AI, multi-player turns — all running on the Moddable Chess consumer SDK. No fork, no standalone codebase. This is what building on the platform looks like.
Four asymmetric factions · Drafted from a 75 XP budget · Unique abilities per piece
Every milestone either generates revenue or unlocks the next raise. Nothing is speculative — each line item is already in progress.
Existing platforms digitise board games. We're building the infrastructure for people to create and sell them.
Digital-only. Closed ecosystem. No modding, no creation tools, no physical bridge.
Upload images, move them around. No rules enforcement, no AI, no print pipeline.
Fun but zero structure. No marketplace, no mobile, no web, no physical bridge.
Consumer SDKs — other games build on our engines. Dungeon Chess is the first. Marketplace, bots, print-on-demand.
Other games build on our engines. Dungeon Chess shipped on MCE — every new consumer deepens the lock-in.
15 MCP tools live. Every AI agent that connects deepens network effects. No competitor has this.
The only platform connecting digital play to physical production. BGA/TTS are screen-only.
A modder-founder, a systems-thinker playtester, a board-game evangelist who builds the engine, and a game artist with TV credits.
Modder since forever. Built the world's first NoSQL CMS and a 500 Startups-backed Bitcoin wallet.
Systems thinker. Chief playtester and social engineer leading online growth, marketing and manufacturing.
Web developer and board-game evangelist. Builds the online engine — grey hair earned the hard way.
Head of creative. BioHack and Mechamato — featured on BoardGameGeek and IMDB.
$250K–$500K funds 18 months of building, making and growing — then crowdfunding takes over.
Chess is moddable, public domain, and never been more popular. Hundreds of variants exist — but no playable physical compendium. We're building the first one.
Scattered across forum threads, PDFs, and Wikipedia. No unified playable collection exists.
Our engine already runs 70 variants with AI opponents. The digital product is live and proven.
No one has shipped a modular physical set that plays hundreds of variants from one box.
Chess has never been more popular. The audience is massive, engaged, and hungry for novelty.
Ship a modular chess set that plays hundreds of variants from a few fundamental board sections. The more we raise, the more sections we ship, and the more variant families unlock. Dungeon Chess is the headline stretch goal that transforms it into something beyond chess.
Each tier adds more sections to the board — and unlocks the next family of variants the engine already supports.
Each section is double-sided — plain squares on the front, pre-printed variant layouts on the back. Flip and combine to build any board the engine supports.
Back: pre-printed variant layouts (coloured squares for Alice, XiangQi, 4-Board, etc.)
The same sections reconfigure into Regular, 4-Player, Alice, Courier, Omega, and Dungeon layouts.
We manufacture in Southeast Asia with established partners. Fulfilment is handled regionally — US, EU, and APAC hubs.
Finalise manufacturing specs, lock stretch goals, begin tooling.
Print run, quality control, sea freight to regional hubs.
Regional fulfilment ships to backers. Digital rewards on day one.
All physical tiers include free shipping · Digital access included at every level
"Nukes is what happens when you give chess players permission to blow things up. My group hasn't touched the original in months."
"The hex board changes everything. You can't turtle, you can't memorise openings. Every game is genuinely different."
"I backed this because the online engine already works. This isn't vapourware — you can play it right now."
500+ games played in alpha · 2,400+ Discord members · $0 ad spend
The engine is live at chess.moddable.games — 70 variants playable right now with AI opponents. This isn't "we hope to build."
Chess is the world's most modded game. No licensing. No IP risk. The community grows the catalogue without us.
Your pledge funds the modular board sections. Each stretch goal unlocks more variant families — one purchase, a lifetime of play.

45 million Catan owners can play on tiles they already have. A hex-tile strategy game with nuclear brinkmanship that plays in 45 minutes.
Every rulebook is open-source. An online engine lets anyone create, host, and monetise tabletop games without building infrastructure.
Like Steam Workshop meets Etsy — but for board games. Designers upload mods, art, and expansions. The platform handles hosting and fulfilment.
Bootstrapped from Malaysia. Already live in alpha with 2,400+ sessions — now raising $250K–$500K to ship physical games.

Based in Malaysia, built for anywhere. Async by default — no mandatory standups, no surveillance tools. Ship when you're sharp.
Our rulebooks are forkable. Our engine is public. Your work builds your portfolio in the open — not behind an NDA.
Four people means no middle management. You own a domain end-to-end and shape it as you see fit.
We communicate in short bursts on Discord, document decisions in Git, and meet live only when something is more fun spoken than typed.
No formal job postings. If you see yourself here, reach out.
Early contributors receive equity in the studio and a royalty share on games they help ship. A meaningful stake that grows with the catalogue.
No creative-by-committee. You pitch ideas, prototype fast, and ship if it's good. The best concepts become the next published game.
Everything ships publicly — on GitHub, BoardGameGeek, and storefronts. Your name on real products, not buried in a credits scroll.
Part-time, full-time, project-based — we care about output, not hours. Contribute around a day job, a degree, or another practice.
We can't yet match big-studio salaries. What we offer is ground-floor ownership of something worth building.
Already own Catan? Skip the tiles — your hex board works out of the box.
Lay 44 hex tiles in any pattern. Each player places 6 tokens on their home tiles. Done in 60 seconds.
Move or split a stack. Stack height determines unit type — 1 is infantry, 2 is artillery, 3 is airborne.
Stack 4+ tokens on one hex and it becomes a base. Bases launch nukes that wipe entire tiles — including your own.
Eliminate all enemy tokens — or control enough territory that surrender is their only option. No draws. No stalemates.
Nukes launches Q4 2026. Back it early, play it first.
Full game, free forever. No account needed. Jump in right now.
44 hex tiles, 75 tokens, 24 cards, illustrated rulebook. The complete physical game.
Weighted tokens, neoprene mat, 3-player expansion, magnetic board. The definitive set.
